___________________{ I'm Back }

No.. Actually that is a little bit of a lie. I'm not actually back. Not actively so anyway. I've over the last few years been posting my art here, there, and everywhere for the individuals that they were intended for, and for family and friends. I've been avoiding posting them on dA because I really don't like the idea of people posting feedback, and myself just simply never replying to that feedback, and potentially not even reading some of it.

I just remember that annoying me a little when I was giving real genuine feedback to people, and taking some real time out of my life to say something, then it never being acknowledged...

Back the reality is, I love dA. It is an amazing community. And I would love to share my art with others from around the world. And it is so much easier to upload here and have a central hub for my work.

So I'm going to trial putting my work back on dA. For a time. If is isn't working how I'd like to hope, I'll be programming a site to hold my works. I will then post that link here, and more or less farewell dA (as a contributor) forever.

PLEASE BE AWARE::

I WILL TRY. But no promises. My life is pretty insane now-a-days.

So yeah, I'm going hungry at the moment because I just splashed out on a new Digital SLR Camera. A nice Nikon D200 camera. For the lens I've bought a 18mm-200mm Sigma Lens. Really nice ^ _ ^

It's great, because it can do everything a film camera can do (excluding the chemical processing of the negetives.. = p But photoshop covers that), and a crap load more. Handles fully Manual, and a variaty of auto functions. But it's the manual that makes me happy.

So, many shoots planned for the future!

Decided it is time to move on from South Seas, and start making head-way in a career. So as of Monday I no-longer work there (full-time; will probably still hang around a few nights here and there - love the place)

Tomorrow (Thursday) I will be starting at my new job at VTR (Video TV Resources), a large Post Production house in Auckland. Handling a huge range of rolls. Great Rep. Most that go through VTR get really good groundings for their careers. Stoked. And the geeky toys that got that I'll be playing with is just awesome.

So yeah, happiness. ^ _ ^

For those of you who are Kiwis, you'll know Shortland St. That is one of the programs that I'll be working on, doing online editing.

Another of my models. Going to be doing a very gothic shoot with her in the future. Dependant on when we both find a good time for the shoot. She is quite busy with Uni, and I'm working 7 days a week, almost every week..

Will be a great shoot.

Yeah, I can't help but mentioning Mariya again. I owe her so much. Not just because she allows me to capture her beauty and personality on camera, but because she is the reason for me getting back into my art. She has reminded me and shown me what it's like to be passionate about something again.

Go check out her art, and share the love. = )

___________________{ Photoshoot in Hamilton }

Some of you will already know that last weekend I traveled down to Hamilton with Mariya Nakova, my favourate model, to do a photoshoot at the Hamilton Gardens. This was the most fun shoot - and challanging - I have ever done. We came out with over 500 photos, around 200 of which I very usable, and around 100 of those that are just amazing.

I'm going to be working on these for a good while, and be throwing them up when I can. = )

Simply You is New Zealand's formost Fashion magazine. I've recently got my mitts in there with them as an editor for content going up on their website (SimplyYou.co.nz). It's great because it is extra money; work at my own pace (pretty much); and another foot in a door for my photography. I'm hoping to get some work for Mariya and myself out of this - and hey, me being me, I don't see anything stopping me, heh.

So hey, that's a real bonus.

Shouts out to Ali for somehow always being on dA. Every time I've returned, she's been one of the first to great! Man, I love Ali = ) Go give her a hug guys!

The one and only, Mariya Nakova. I wouldn't be back on dA for ages if it wasn't for this monkey being mean to me and making me slave behind a camera taking photos of her day-in-and-day-out. Love/Hate Relationship this is.

Blasted models!! *hugs* *hugs*

A Man with a Straw Hat

Mon Jun 4, 2007, 8:46 PM
Check out :iconmariyagdnakova:

= ) = )

Hey Guys. Any souls out there still watching me? Gosh, it's been around 10 months since my last entry... wow. Thought I'd give an update as to where I'm at in life, and do a few uploads on some photography I've been doing.

Last you guys would have heard, I was at South Seas: Film and Television school studying. This was 2006. Everything going amazing. And barely having a life outside of 'the industry'.

Well, I'm kinda' still in the same boat now. Except now I'm not a student... Yeah.. I'm now hired by South Seas as an Assistant Tutor.

And it's awesome. I am still pretty much doing the same stuff I did last year, as far as interactions with students go - except now I'm getting paid, and don't have to stress over the weekly projects that get thrown at you.

The best part is I have another 120 friends, but they all let me play the 'tutor card' when I need to, and won't hold it against me.

Besides working at South Seas, I'm also working on meny outside projects. I've just done in the last week a music video for an up-and-coming band (Sonic Alter), which was great. Was Grip on that.

Also got a my own short films/features in production, and working with an extraordinary director on one of his shorts and his feature, as his Director of Photography/Editor/Assistant Director. (Nick King. Look out for his name in the future - I will place everything I own on saying he will be a big name in a few years. Also the cousin of Black Sheep Director).

Also, been getting back into my photography. I've got myself two models. Both of which are amazing. I'll upload two or three semi-processed photos today also.

Over and above all that crap, I'm doing well. Living day-to-day in a creative industry is the dream for me, am I'm living that dream. The hours are harsh most of the time, but it's something I enjoy, so it's worth it by far!

Still missing you guys all tonnes. Geez, I am. The only reason I'm here typing this is because of you guys. If you are reading this, pat yourself on the back - you are the people making dA such a great place, and you are the people that dispite not ever meeting in person, I can call friends.

Take care all, I'll try over the next few weeks to jump on and have a perve at what you all have been doing.

Dave. (aka, Cecil now)

A Different Breed of Little Men

Mon Aug 21, 2006, 2:09 AM
Man...

In my last journal entry I was complaining how it had been so long sine I had been
back to dA, and that was after 3 or so months.. This time round it has been well
over a year since I have posted on dA. I have however briefly over the months
popped in just to check out the artwork from all my friends around here.

I hate not being active on dA. I miss everyone badly, and I miss the making art
and viewing other's art.

Well, I can't stay for long, so I'll quickly write a 'life-update'. I'm going to just do
a real brief summary of what has been happening with my the past while, because
it would take me a good solid day to say everything. Here I go!

Right. Last you guys heard I was working as a manager of a video store. Damn,
that was long ago. I become the boss for 3 months when my boss killed himself.
I learned even more from that; running the entire show. My boss didn't have a
will, so I basically took over everything until the courts could settle on who it all
went to. NZ law is crazy.

Juring this period, I got an email in November (2005) from Gerban Cath, School
Director of South Seas Film & Television School in Auckland - which as some of
you might remember from early journals I tried to get into the 2005 year course
but was accepted then thrown onto a waiting list due to them accepting too many
people.

Basically the email said that they were keeping a position for me open for the
2006 course intake if I wanted it still.

I did. I accepted. I quit my job. I moved. I began living again.

My intentions are to become a film director. But I decided to get my diploma in
Post Production (Editing and such). This is because computer related things have
always been easy to me, so I knew it would allow me to have tonnes of free time,
allowing me to focus on getting a large range of skills while at South Seas, and
being good at it all.

Which has been paying off.

South Seas is amazing. I have 120 friends there that are just like family. I am
meeting amazing people all the time, and getting amazing experiences on a daily
bases. You never know what will be happening next, and I feel like I'm going to
explode with excitement everytime I start thinking about the posibilities that are
in my future now.

I've worked on a few TV series, a feature-length film, a few short films, and a
couple of studio shows. And I'm still a student... I got to do AD`ing (Assistant
Directing - the person that controls the entire crew and everything). I have a
constant job every Thurday night on a TV studio show called Galleria as the
Vision Switcher, Studio Director, CCU Operater, Audio Recordist, and Editor,
all in one. I've done camera work for a number of documentaries. Audio on
a recent short film. And wrote and directed a short film called "John Rd.".

I have famous people I call my friends too, which is wierd when ever I think
about that they are indeed famous. A few examples that people around the
world should know::

Daisy and Lucy Lawless (Lucy is Xena:Warrior Princess, and recently been
acting on Battlestar Galactica as a Cylon Agent -- Daisy is her daughter).
David Blyth has ten feature films under his belt, and is the creator and writer
of Power Rangers.

I've also worked at South Seas, being the post-production tutor for the intro
courses (week-long courses giving people a taste of South Seas) and STAR
courses (same as intro courses, except for high-school students). I have
also been asked to keep doing them next year.

*Sigh* Sorry, typing all of this is getting my excited again.

Okay, I have fun non-stop, and that is what this industry is. It is damn fun.
Damn stressful. Damn well paying. Damn exciting. Damn long hours. Damn
Sexy Really...

I have been pretty much going none stop for a year with hours around 14-18
a day. It is long, but fun. So even though it is long hours, you are never
thinking during the day 'when is this day going to end', or 'how much long left'.

And the pay in this industry is rediculous (especially considering how fun it all
is!). And in New Zealand the pay is crap compared to the rest of the world,
yet it is still amazing. For instance, I'm in an entry level job (the Thurday
Night one) and that is paying NZ$30 an hour. To put that into perspective:

A year, this equates to around NZ$62,400. That is around the same as
someone that has a Masters Degree and 10 years work experience in many
other fields of work.

And I am in an entry level position in one of the lowest paying countries in
the world for the film & television industry... that is rediculous.........

So my life is going well, in case you have not already guessed. hehe

Now, onto talking about Ali, aiRaGe and Faery!

Man, you guys have advanced soooooo far in your art abilities. I am blown
away by what I have seen in your galleries. I get a sence of pride just
because I know such stunning artists.

Ali.

Man, have stepped up your game! And you have become a great space artist
too! Wow.

Faery.

Same for you. And I see you have expanded to Terragen also. Over one
year you have become pretty damn good with it. Gee.

aiRaGe.

And you.. Holy Frak.. When did you become such a pro!? I can not even
begin to explain my amazement at the artwork you are pumping out. It
is amazing. And dude, I really have to take my hat off to you for keeping
Inner Space up and running so well. For what little it may mean, you have
made me proud to have made you the head admin there.

And still having a little dedication thanking me after over a year? Dude, that
is heart warming.

--

I love you guys!

I miss you all!
